Upcoming as an app on your phone
Upcoming is now available as an app for your phone. You don't need to download anything from the App Store or Google Play: you simply add Upcoming to your home screen straight from your browser. After that, you have your own Upcoming icon next to your other apps and open it with a single tap.
What does the app give you?
- Push notifications: Invitations, messages and changes to events appear on your phone right away, just like WhatsApp or your mail app. This works even when Upcoming is closed.
- Always at hand: One tap on the icon is all it takes. No need to open a browser or type in an address.
- More space: Upcoming fills the whole screen, without an address bar or browser toolbars.
- No store download: The app takes up hardly any storage and is always up to date. You never have to install updates.
How to install the app on iPhone
On iPhone and iPad, this works best with Safari.
- Open upcoming.at in Safari and log in.
- Tap your profile picture at the bottom right and then Install app. You'll see the steps there again.
- In Safari, tap Share – the square with the arrow pointing up. If you don't see it, tap "…" first.
- Scroll down a little and choose Add to Home Screen.
- Confirm with Add at the top right.
Upcoming now appears as an icon on your home screen. From now on, always open the app via this icon. The first time, you may have to log in once more, because the iPhone keeps the app separate from Safari.
On iPhone, push notifications only work in the installed app, not in Safari. You need iOS 16.4 or later.
How to install the app on Android
On Android, this works best with Chrome.
- Open upcoming.at in Chrome and log in.
- Tap your profile picture at the bottom right and then Install app.
- Confirm with Install in the window that opens.
Don't see the menu item? You can also use the browser: in Chrome, tap the three dots at the top right and choose Add to Home screen or Install app.
Upcoming then appears on your home screen and in your app drawer.
Turn on push notifications
For your phone to notify you, you need to allow push once:
- Open Upcoming via the new icon on your home screen.
- Tap the bell. At the top you'll see the hint Turn on push notifications.
- Tap Turn on and allow notifications when your phone asks.
Done! Under Settings → Notifications you choose what you want a push for, for example invitations, messages or changes to events. There you also see all devices with push turned on and can switch individual ones off again.
Declined notifications by accident? You can allow them again for Upcoming in your phone's settings.
Good to know
- Everything still works in the browser: The app is an option, not a must. Upcoming keeps working in the browser and on your computer, just like before.
- Without internet: Upcoming needs an internet connection. If you're offline, the app shows a notice. Tap Try again as soon as you have a signal again.
- Removing it: You can delete Upcoming from your home screen like any other app by pressing and holding the icon. Your account and your events stay as they are.
